On the 6th June 2011, the UK research vessel the RRS Discovery left Liverpool docks to embark on the first research cruise in a large UK programme studying the impacts of ocean acidification.

Sea surface OA reserch cruise in NW European Seas

On the cruise, researchers are investigating the impacts of changing seawater chemistry on:

• marine organisms and ecosystems,
•  biogeochemical cycling in the sea, and
• how the sea interacts with the atmosphere to influence climate.
